Individual Permit Record Set and Last Week's Group Record Tied!

Jeff Ditsworth with the biggest of his FOUR permit in two days!

For the third week in a row we landed monster permit at The Palometa Club. What started off as a season plagued by the weird weather of 2010 has suddenly become the year of the huge fish.

As P-Club manager Dick Cameron put it, "We finally got a break in the weather and it's just poppin'!"

Return Palometa Club guest Jeff Ditsworth arrived on Friday and promptly landed four permit in his first two days fishing, including the 30-pound monster above. Charter alumni Steve Mendenhall, Peter Raudzens and Wayne Sletten also took off the gloves - Peter with a Grand Slam, Steve with his first TWO permit ever, and Wayne with a 16-pounder. First timer at The Palometa Club, but well known and successful Florida tournament angler, Doug Berhman also put a permit on the scoreboard. All of this in the first 48 hours of their week-long visit!

Here's how the rest of the week is going down:

MONDAY -Three more permit landed, TWO of them by Jeff, who also boated two bones, a tarpon, and a snook for a SUPER GRAND SLAM!!! As Dick quipped,"The guy's having a career this week."

TUESDAY - Jeff got further promoted with his SEVENTH permit for the week. This put him in a three-way tie with Eizo Maruhashi and Joe Seelig for the Club record for most permit caught in a week (although Joe gets special credit for catching all of his in just three days last season!)

WEDNESDAY - Jeff took the all-time single angler lead at EIGHT with yet another permit! Dana Prescott got on the board with one and Doug Behrman landed a beautiful twenty pounder. Incredible!

THURSDAY - And that's how the week ended. Jeff made individual history and all the guys together tied the Club record - at 16 - for total number of permit caught by a group in a week (set just last week by the First Light Angler group). They actually had three chances during the last day to beat it, but unfortunately Jan Esway, Jack Voytko and Steve Mendenhall all broke off permit they were fighting. Such is fishing! And, although somewhat overshadowed by all the permit hoopla, there were plenty of other great species caught by the group. We'll be posting those stories and photos soon.

Jeff's run at the record was enjoyed by all, but the camaraderie, great food and unparalleled service at the Club was the reason seven of these anglers were back for their third and fourth visits, and hopefully will be the catalyst for our four new guests to follow in the future. Thanks to everyone for a truly remarkable week!
