Is This Finally The Weather Break We've Been Waiting For?

Tom Rainey, multi-species maestro - with a rare, prehistoric triple tail.
And a few more catches from the week...

Is that a light at the end of the tunnel? No, it's the sun, alleluia! Could we finally be getting back to our normal weather patterns. Five anglers this week certainly hoped so.

Our most favorite Peter Swensen came down from Texas as a single angler this week. Remember the last time that happened he and Palometa Club manager Dick Cameron went fishing and came back with a world record permit! The two teamed up again for a couple of days and although nothing quite as dramatic happened as last year, they did throw to a lot of "very BIG permit," one of which Peter finally landed on his last day. They also reported seeing numerous big tarpon up on the flats, a result they surmised of the cold water conditions.

Ascension Bay old-timer Tom Rainey and his wife Kathy joined us for the week hoping to put Kathy onto a big palometa, and to renew an old friendship with Dick and Kaye who they knew from past ABBC days. Auld Lang Syne was sung a plenty, and Kathy definitely got her shots at a bunch of permit, but the temperamental fish were still lock-jawed from the cold weather. Tom on the other hand managed one nice permit for the week, along with seemingly one of everything els that swims including some nice snook and first-for-the-Club tripletail.

Rounding out the week were Jason and Stephania Lindsey. Jason chalked up a palometa to bring the group in for the week at a respectable three permit on the count. The fish were definitely there, and everyone reported lots of shots. Now if the north wind will just stay down long enough to heat up the water, the fishing will follow.
